27 July 2018 — We are losing our rinds over how fast summer is flying by! We’re welcoming August by celebrating National Watermelon Day on Friday, August 3rd.

Art in the Age, Old City’s one-of-a-kind tasting room, home bar supply store and bottle shop, is keeping it cool with a Watermelon Cucumber Cooler. Sample this mouthwatering cocktail at their bar only on August 3rd for $8. Can’t make the date? See below for the recipe:

Watermelon Cucumber Cooler:

1½ oz Powderhorn Vodka
1 oz. Lime Juice
2-3 Slices Cucumber
4 oz. Watermelon Juice
Muddle 2-3 slices of cucumber in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Fill with ice. Add Powderhorn Vodka, watermelon juice and lime juice. Shake and strain into glass, and garnish with cucumber and watermelon slices.

Bluebird Distilling is bringing the tropics to Philly with The Rosey-Faced Lovebird ($12), boasting Bluebird Dark Rum, Campari, pineapple juice, fresh jalapeño and watermelon. This thirst-quencher is available on August 3rd in Phoenixville! You can make this cocktail at home by following this recipe:

Rosey-Faced Lovebird:

1.5 oz. Bluebird Distilling Dark Rum
.75 oz. Campari
1 oz. Fresh Pineapple Juice
.5 oz. Fresh Lime Juice
.5 oz. Demerara Syrup
2 tbsp. Watermelon
3 Slices Fresh Jalapeño
Muddle juices, syrup, watermelon, and jalapeños thoroughly. Add rum, Campari, and ice; shake, and double-strain into pub glass. Add fresh ice, garnish, and serve.

Coopers’ Craft Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey knows the best way to celebrate warm weather is with fun and unique southern-inspired cocktails. We’ve been crushing on this blended Summer Crush cocktail all season. Bust out the blender for this recipe:

Summer Crush:

2 oz.       Coopers’ Craft Bourbon
3-4 each    Pieces of Frozen Watermelon 
2 oz.       Lemonade Concentrate (thawed from juice freezer section)
3 each      Basil and Mint Leaves
½ cup       Ice
2 dashes    Hibiscus Bitters
Place bourbon, watermelon, lemonade concentrate, two each of the basil, mint leaves, and ice in blender; blend for 15 seconds or until very smooth texture is reached.  Pour into your favorite glassware and garnish with the remaining basil and mint leaves, slice of lemon, and the two dashes of bitters on top of the cocktail. Serve with a metal straw and enjoy in the shade.

Head to Headhouse Square’s The Twisted Tail for a Summer Punch Bowl, served with gin and fresh watermelon juice and topped with melon slices. Watermelon lovers can enjoy $10 off a small punch bowl (serves 4-6) and $20 off a large punch bowl (serves 10-12) from 5-7 on August 3rd and August 4th.
