Competing among major names and players within the category, Tamworth Distilling, the craft distillery known for bold experimentation with local flora and fauna, has been awarded the title of New Hampshire Spirit of the Year by the New Hampshire Liquor Control Board due to the high performing sales of Tamworth Garden White Mountain Gin within the state.
Since opening in 2013, Tamworth Distilling has garnered a cult following, and has the numbers to back it up, with Tamworth Garden White Mountain Gin seeing a nearly 4% increase in sales last year in the state of New Hampshire. This award comes on the heels of the successful sellout of Summer Solstice Gin and the return of Watermelon Gin, back by popular demand.
“I am obsessed with the art of gin-making, and our distilling team is obsessed with pushing barriers with each new spirit we create – pushing our own barriers, because there’s no one who can do exactly what we do,” commented Grasse. “Our distillers actually walk outside, see what plants are in season and flourishing in our garden, and then formulate recipes that highlight the freshest ingredients at their natural peak. We are quite literally capturing the essence of wild New England in every bottle.”
Boasting a tropical fruit nose and lingering piney aroma, Tamworth Garden White Mountain Gin ($55.00/750ml) pairs well with everything from a basic gin & tonic to more complex cocktails, while remaining smooth and interesting enough to sip on its own. Outperforming other national and local distilleries, Tamworth Garden White Mountain Gin blends traditional botanicals with an uncommon and unexpected freshness typical of Tamworth Distilling’s unique style.
The award-winning White Mountain Gin is a mainstay of the larger Tamworth Garden line, a curated collection where scratch-made spirits blossom from garden to glass. The Tamworth Garden collection additionally boasts a Lilith and VSOP Apple Brandy, Fresh Fruit Cordials, and a variety of ginnovations from Thai Chili to Damson Plum. Tamworth Garden White Mountain Gin, in addition to Tamworth Garden’s other evocative spirits, are available for sale at Tamworth Distilling & Mercantile and in all NHLCB stores.
ABOUT TAMWORTH DISTILLING
Tamworth Distilling is a craft distillery, founded and owned by liquor brand savant Steven Grasse, that focuses on creating truly one-of-a-kind, small-batch spirits that reflect the flora and fauna of lush Tamworth, New Hampshire. All ingredients used in the production of spirits are farmed or foraged within 150 miles of the distillery. In addition to showcasing local and natural ingredients, the brand highlights prominent historical American events, figures, and notable geography; including figures such as Henry David Thoreau, and landmarks including New Hampshire’s famed Old Man of the Mountain.
Since the turn of the 20th century, Tamworth, New Hampshire has been a haven for artists, writers, thinkers, and innovators – from Henry James and E.E. Cummings to President Grover Cleveland. Grasse set up his distillery in accordance with the land around it, not against it. Taking a cue from the 19th century Transcendentalists of New England, Tamworth Distilling pulls its inspiration from the surrounding atmosphere, their recipes from the crops they grow, and the histories buried in the soil below. The distillery has recently been celebrated by FOOD & WINE as a 2023 Innovator of the Year.
