July 23, 2021 – The Summer of Spritz is here! In honor of National Spritz Day on Sunday, August 1we’ve rounded-up truly unique variations of the signature hot weather sipper – fit with elevated recipes to try at home, a spritz-themed bar, and more.

Where to Drink a Spritz in the Philadelphia Area: 

Red Owl Tavern, the neighborly yet sophisticated tavern adjacent to Independence Mall, boasts a brand-new collection of spritzers, courtesy of Lead Bartender Christopher Devern, including the Pepper Tree Spritz prepared with Pink Peppercorn Gin, Apérol, fresh lemon, and topped off with Aromatic Fever Tree Tonic, The Lemon Tree Spritz crafted with Lemon Infused Vodka, Lillet, and Organic Mionetto Prosecco, and Strawberry Flower Spritz composed of Strawberry Gin, Peaflower Infused Saint Germain, a hint of lemon, and topped off with Elderflower Fever Tree Tonic. 

Imbibers are welcome to sip these refreshing libations all summer long while taking in the stellar views of the city.  

Hours of operation are Monday from 8am – 8pm, Thursday from 8am – 9pm, Friday – Saturday from 8am – 10pm, and Sunday from 8am – 3pm. Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Royal Boucherie, Old City’s lively neighborhood bistro, is expanding its esteemed bar program this season with a three-step customizable Spritzer Bar, offering guests the opportunity to craft their dream libation. 

Helmed by Service Manager Samantha Seltzer, the Spritzer Bar allows imbibers to choose a base Aperitif spirit, a modifier, and a topper. Offerings include Aperol, Cappelletti, Cocchi, Lillet Blanc, Lo-Fi Gentian, Nonino, Pavan, and more. 

This “build your own spritz” module is designed to highlight Royal Boucherie’s unique Amaro selection as well as provide guests with a refreshing elixir throughout the summer months.  

Hours of operation are Wednesday through Sunday 4 – 10 pm.

Stella of New Hope, Bucks County’s modern American restaurant overlooking the Delaware River, offers a sensational spritz for guests and imbibers to enjoy this summer season.  

The Stella Spritz is crafted with vodka, prosecco, grapefruit, and garnished with fresh rosemary. Guests may enjoy this summer sipper al fresco on the expansive outdoor patio and pair with a variety of different seasonal dishes crafted by Executive Chef Michael O’Halloran.  

Hours of operation Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday from 4 – 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 4 – 10pm, and brunch service on Saturday and Sunday from 11am –2pm.

Spritz Cocktails to Make at Home:

Art in the Age, Old City’s one-of-a-kind tasting room, home bar supply and bottle shop, offers a slew of refreshing craft cocktails and recipes – ideal for quenching-thirst in even the most intense of heat waves.  

This summer, imbibe on the effervescent Martini Spritz, a refreshing mix of gin, vermouth, and tonic. The cucumber, sea salt, and Tamworth Garden White Mountain Gin are welcomed summery touches in this session-able martini variation. 

Martini Spritz

  • 1.5 oz Tamworth Garden White Mountain Gin  
  • 1 oz Dolin Dry Vermouth  
  • .5 oz Lemon Juice  
  • ¼ Jack Rudy Olive Brine  
  • 1 Cucumber Round  
  • 2 Pinches of Sea Salt  
  • 1.5 oz Folkington’s English Garden Tonic  
  • 1.5 oz Seltzer  
  • 8 Drops Artesmisia Junio Elder Bitters  
  • 3 Dashes Scrappy’s Black Lemon Bitters 

Glassware: Tumbler Glass  

Garnish: Sprig of dill, Lemon Twist and Cucumber 

Instructions: Add cucumber & sea salt to shaker tin. Add all other ingredients except garden tonic and shake until well combined. Strain through fine mesh strainer into tumbler glass over two square cubes. Top with English Garden tonic.

Coopers’ Craft Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Brown Forman’s newest expression, is a versatile and light-bodied bourbon that can be used to make a variety of unique cocktails such as this summer sipper. An American in Venice, a delightful mix of bourbon, Campari, and prosecco.
