June 30, 2021- Summer 2021 came in like a wave – a heat wave that is. Cool off with some help from our favorite frozen boozy treats! We gathered a handful of recipes and restaurant with icy libations and desserts to enjoy throughout the season.

Art in the Age, Old City’s one-of-a-kind tasting room, home bar supply and bottle shop, offers a Black Trumpet Blueberry Cordial that can be poured over top of hearty serving of French Vanilla ice cream. This cordial includes hand-picked blueberries from Art in the Age’s sister distillery, Tamworth Distilling, and black trumpet mushrooms from New Hampshire Mushroom Company. This symphony of sweet and savory flavors pairs perfectly with any ice cream this summer.   

Imbibers and ice cream lovers can pick up a bottle in-store at Art in the Age during the hours of operation: Tuesday through Sunday from 12 – 6 pm.

Assembly Rooftop Lounge, Center City’s rooftop lounge with breathtaking views of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, City Hall and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, is serving up a chilly Frosé composed of rosé, Cocchi Rosa, dry vermouth, strawberry and lemon, as well as a Frozen Banana Daquiri crafted with rum, Overproof Rum, banana, lime, and Demerara. Imbibers are welcome to sip these refreshing libations all summer long while taking in stellar city views.  

Hours of operation are: Thursday through Saturday 4 – 9 pm.

Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve, Brown Forman’s newest expression, is aged in an American White Oak barrel that allows the whiskey to combine with the wood, creating a complex flavor palate. Frosé is a great way to cool down this summer, but why not spice it up with a Frozen Boulevardier! Created by Fitz Bailey, Coopers’ Craft Mixologist – the classic bourbon negroni gets a frozen twist. Check out the recipe below to make this classic frozen drink in the comfort of your own home.  

Frozen Boulevardier

Ingredients:     

  • 16 oz OJ     
  • 8 oz Rich Simple Syrup     
  • 3 oz water     
  • 1.5 oz Coopers’ Craft Barrel Reserve 
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth 
  • 1 oz Campari     

Glass: Coup    

Garnish: Orange Twist    

Instructions: Combine all ingredients in a bowl; Pour into a sealed container and refrigerate for 24 hours; Pour mixture into an ice cream maker for about 45 minutes; Scoop finished sorbet back into a sealed container and store in the freezer for two hours; scoop, garnish, serve.

Devil’s Den, the South Philly gastropub, has crafted boozy popsicles for imbibers to enjoy this summer season. The icy refreshment is available in Lime in da Coconut composed of coconut rum, lime juice, and cream or coconut, and Passionfruit Caipirinha crafted with cachaca, passionfruit, lime and mint – perfect treat for combatting the scorching temps.  

 Hours of operation are Tuesday through Wednesday 4 – 10 pm, Thursday through Friday 4 – 12 am, Saturday 11 am – 12 am, Sunday 11 am – 10 pm, and brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 11 am – 2 pm.
