Assembly Rooftop Lounge, Center City’s rooftop lounge with panoramic views of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, is taking Mother’s Day to new heights with High Tea on Sunday, May 9 from 12 – 2pm. Treat Mom to a fun tea party featuring cocktails, mocktails, chef-inspired finger sandwiches and sweeping views of the Parkway, priced per person at $40 for the “I’m Not Asking You, I’m Telling You”package or $55 for the “Because I Said So!” package.   

A sample of the craft cocktail offerings include  Frosé Tea, composed of apple brandy, lime, raspberry-chamomile shrub, and rosé, and Sunshine, crafted with Tito’s vodka, mango, bergamot-fennel tea, lemon, and sparkling rosé.

East  Passyunk  Avenue, home to over 150 independently owned businesses in South Philadelphia, has an array of Mother’s Day festivities in place for a day spent pampering Mom. Join Society Hill Dance Academy for flower-themed performances, with the option of socially distanced dancing along, starting at 2pm on Sunday, May 9, and afterwards, head over to The Singing Fountain to catch a live opera performance by East  Passyunk  Opera Project ( ePOP ) at 4pm. For gift giving, shop from a vast selection of cookbooks, candles, baking tools, and home décor from  Occasionette’s Mother’s Day collection.

Forsythia, Old City’s contemporary French bar and restaurant helmed by Chef Christopher Kearse, boasts an elegant three-course prix fixe   Mother’s Day brunch menu for $50 per person on Sunday, May 9 from 10am – 3pm.  First course options include English Pea Soup and Salad du jour. Second course options include Avocado Toast and White Fish Tartine. Lastly, third course options include Quiche, Yeasted Waffles and berries, Pork Belly and Eggs, Smoked Salmon and Potato Rosti, and Forsythia’s famous Burger Royale (two smash patties oozing in raclette). Jet Wine Bar, Philadelphia’s “global vineyard,” has an elaborate Mother’s Day brunch planned with featured Guest Chef and Chopped Champion Gregory Headen crafting a specialty menu served a la carte, as well as sparkling wine and cocktail specials on Sunday, May 9 from 11am – 4pm.

Sabrina’s Café,   the locally grown group of popular breakfast, lunch and (in one case) dinner restaurants, is offering a fruity twist to the fan-favorite Stuffed Challah French Toast with wild blueberry preserves, cinnamon, and honey, available at all open Sabrina’s Café locations  on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 9 for $12.59. For folks looking to serve Mom breakfast in bed on her special day — Raquel DeAbreu, Co-Owner of Sabrina’s, is sharing her recipe for the rich and decadent Blueberry Stuffed Challah French Toast below.  

Blueberry Stuffed Challah French Toast

Ingredients: 

  • 1 loaf Challah Bread 
  •  6 eggs 
  •  ½ Cup orange juice 
  • Zest of one lemon 
  • 1 pint heavy cream 
  • 4 tbsp boysenberry syrup 
  • 3 tbsp vanilla extract 
  • 1 cup Wild Blueberry Perseveres 
  • ½ cup white sugar 
  • 1 cup blueberries 
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon 
  • Drizzle of honey   

Instructions: 

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray 9 x 12 pyrex baking dish. Cube the Challah into 1 1/2 ” cubes, then place into a large mixing bowl. Beat eggs. Add orange juice, lemon zest, heavy cream, boysenberry syrup, vanilla, and sugar, and mix well. Add mixture to the cubed challah. Add half of the blue berries and the preserves. Mix well but carefully so not to break up the mixture. Add the cinnamon. Place the mixture into the sprayed pyrex and add the remaining blueberries then drizzle the honey. Bake uncovered for 35 to 45 minutes. Cool and serve with fresh whipped cream and garnish with blueberries. Can also use the same recipe with any fruit bread – peach, cinnamon raisin, or apple!

  • ¼ oz. Grapefruit Juice 
  • 1 ½ oz. Casamara Club — Alta 
  • 12 Drops Addition Pink Peppercorn Bitters 

Glassware: Coupe 

Garnish: Grapefruit and Star Anise Garnish 

Instructions: Chill a coupe glass in the freezer; add all ingredients except club to shaker tin and dry shake; pour into chilled coupe glass over one square cube; top with club; garnish with grapefruit peel and star anise
