Philadelphia may be 1,200 miles north of New Orleans, but that’s not stopping the below restaurants and bars from pulling out all the stops for Mardi Gras this year.

Rex 1516, Philly’s home for elevated southern cuisine, is celebrating Mardi Gras with mouthwatering Southern comfort food and classic NOLA libations, including Falernum Hurricanes ($8), served with aged rum, white rum and the popular Tiki syrup liquor falernum, and a King Cake Burger, served with an 8 oz. beef patty with cheddar, bacon, lettuce and housemade pickles on a king’s cake roll. Guests can enjoy Chef Justin Swain’s King Cake Burger with a pint of Newbold and shot of Jim Beam’s Devil’s Cut for $17.

Red Owl Tavern, a New American Old City spot across from Independence Mall, is offering a carnival of flavors for their Mardi Gras drink specials this year. For $10 each, patrons can sip on King Cake Milk Punch, a smooth drink with brown butter washed bourbon, vanilla dem and nutmeg, a Café NOLA, with a creamy coffee, praline syrup and cognac mix, and a Sazerac with rye whiskey, absinthe, sugar and Peychaud’s bitters.

Square 1682, located around the corner from Rittenhouse Square in Center City, is serving up a Sazerac for $10 on Fat Tuesday. Garnishing the drink is a fluffy fried beignet, a quintessential Mardi Gras and New Orleans sweet treat that tops off the drink with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Assembly Rooftop Lounge, located on the 9th floor of the Logan Hotel overlooking the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, is joining the celebration with frozen Hurricanes. For $14, patrons can enjoy a NOLA French Quarter inspired Hurricane with dark rum and a tropical combination of fruit juices while overlooking a beautiful view of Logan Square and beyond.

Urban Farmer, the modern American steakhouse located off Logan Square, is bringing the southern favorite Shrimp and Grits to the table for $18 during Mardi Gras. This traditional breakfast dish of a poached egg with fried shrimp and tasso ham over cheesy, creamy grits is available all day for hungry Mardi Gras partiers.
